The LabST – Laboratory for the History of Texts was established in 2019 by a team of scholars of the University of Bari (Italy). Its activity is centred around the long-standing and multifaceted tradition of Greek and Latin texts studied in their historical dimension: from the early stages of composition and circulation, to the forms and contexts of preservation, and to the paths of the tradition. Research spans from Antiquity to Latin and Byzantine Middle Ages; however, as research crosses the history of libraries, the development of printing throughout the centuries, the history of textual scholarship and the classical tradition and reception, it also goes as far as modern and contemporary ages. The LabST also intends to put together scholars coming from other disciplinary perspectives (e.g. scholars studying texts written in languages other than Greek and Latin or texts belonging to different cultures) in order to create a wider research network. Finally, the LabST aims at investigating the history of ancient texts and, at the same time, at their assessment, conservation and enhancement through different activities: scholarly and informative publications, digital contributions and editions, lectures, conferences, workshops, collaboration with universities, schools, libraries, research institutions and learned societies.
